Biography

Artist's Statement
As my photographic efforts mature, I find myself using photography as an art form to express my inner visualizations. Photography is a medium through which I capture light and pattern to communicate my inner perceptions. I want my photographs to look painterly and somewhat abstract as they communicate the beautiful and thought-provoking things around us. My photographs make me think, wonder, and remember. My goal is to share my perceptions and visualizations with all who view my photographs.

Background

My formal education includes a B.A. in English, with a concentration in the arts. Part of my undergraduate study was at the University of Vienna’s Institute of European Studies, where I enjoyed focused, firsthand exposure to the visual arts and a broad view of art history. Travel in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand, and West Africa shaped my views of nature, wildlife, people, and places. I find my ideas influenced by the work of photographers Franz Lanting and Alain Briot, and many less-famous but wonderfully talented photographers whose work is just beginning to emerge.

Technical Quality
After many years of film photography, my work is now all original digital color photography. Because I control all aspects of the production process, I can ensure that all my artistic goals for a photograph are achieved. I print photographs on paper using Museo Silver Rag fine art photo paper and Ultrachrome K3 pigment inks. Then I apply an invisible moisture- and UV-resistant spray specially formulated for the paper-ink combination. I mat the photographs to museum archival standards and frame them in classic gallery frames. Photographs infused in aluminum are printed on specially prepared aluminum that allows the inks to chemically combine with the metal. After applying a protective finish to the photograph, I attach a frameless mounting bracket that “floats” the picture away from the wall.

With reasonable care, each photograph can be expected to last at least 150 years with no fading, change of color, or other deterioration. As technology moves forward, I am committed to advancing with it. My goal is to have my photography represent the highest quality available.
